Programming Laptop: Lenovo VS ASUS?

I m heading off to college in a few weeks for Computer Science and am in need of a new laptop. After researching, I m looking between a Lenovo (possibly a ThinkPad) or an ASUS. I will mostly be using this for programming, with also some gaming as well.

What are the pros & cons of getting one over the other? And which would you recommend? Thanks!
