My USB microphone (Samson C01u) wont work in my laptop (lenovo g580)?

The problem is that my laptop, which is windows 8.1, doesn t recognise the usb. I know my usb holes work fine because I connect my phone to it, use wireless mouse and keyboard but this just does not work. This microphone doesn t need or have any drivers to install. If you were to put it in any other computer/laptop it should work automatically. What can I do? I ve spent 50 pounds on this and I know its not the microphone s fault!
