I want a laptop (not a tabley and not a mac laptop) never bought one before. I want one with 'windows' like with just internet explorer and google. How do I know what im getting when purchasing a laptop?

I just want a regular pc setup (if that makes sense) I hate mac setup too I used one before. Don't like it
there are different brands of computers like dell, acer, hp pavilion, Lenovo, Samsung, vaio
so how do I know which brand will give me what I want?
