Replacing hard drive for Lenovo y50?

Ok so the original hard drive kicked the can, but my issue as of now is that the laptop did not come with a windows cd. The y50 has the handy recovery startup button next to the normal power button that I ve used to boot up and do a factory reset a couple times, will that work with a brand new hard drive? There also isn t a disk drive so if I need to buy a windows cd I d also need an external disk drive… Or is buying a HDD with windows pre installed an option? Thanks for any help
