LAPTOP Help! I BROUGHT IT FROM EBAY AND I THINK ITS A BAD ONE?

i brought a lenovo thinkpad edge, and it starts up fine, but while im on it, the screen will flicker to black, and then it will do one beeping noise.(its like its suspended) It starts back up, and then will do this again, after some time. It didnt come with an OS, so i downloaded linux, and that is all. When Im charging it i notice it does this less often.
