Print button doesn't work?

I have a Lenovo Laptop with a mx40 printer connected. When I go into printers, it says that the printer is connected. However, I can't print anything on word, google docs, etc. Whenever I click the print button it doesn't do anyhitng/ saves it as a pdf. Help!
