Vertical lines appearing on a Lenovo Ideapad?

Hi, I have been experiencing some problems with my (brand new) Lenovo Ideapad. I have had it for just over a month. When I switch it on, the normal Windows 8 login screen is replaced with vertical lines which take up the whole of the screen. I can't fix the laptop, because it won't display anything for me to see what is going on. (Obviously I am typing this from another computer!) Just wondering if anyone knows if it is a hardware or a software issue and how to fix it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions
