Microsoft Word opens then corrupts files?

Recently I had installed cccleaner, zonealarm, and avg protection on my laptop.during this, I had un-installed some programs which came with the computer that I didn't need.
Now everytime I try to open my word documents, the files end up corrupted and unable to open. I'm not sure what to do and have run all the scans.
The laptop is a lenovo and runs windows 8.1.
