I don't feel like my graphics card is working properly. Am I doing something wrong?

I got a brand new laptop from Lenovo that was designed for gaming. However, this computer runs games poorly at best. I am working with a Lenovo y40-80 laptop with an AMD Radeon r9 275 graphics card. I was expecting this thing to be great, even in the comments for the thing, it said it would run Bioshock Infinite smoothly just not on highest settings. I can't even run Bioshock Infinite on the lowest settings without getting serious lag. I did everything from switching the computer settings around for higher performance to making sure AMD Radeon is running my games. And it is. Same thing happened for Battlefield Bad Company 2. My Dell Inspiron could run that game better than this thing and it had an hd 3000 graphics card! So what is the problem with my computer am I doing something wrong or is it essentially broken? Help is much appreciated.
