Lenovo not picking up microphone from my headset?

z50-70 brand new. I tried 2 different headset microphone combos and they both get sound but the laptop wont detect the microphone. They worked on my last laptop so i dont need kind of splitter cables like someone else suggested.

i tried lenovos forums and no one will respond, their website links for driver update downloads are broken, and they wont reply to their facebook page messages
