Laptops that are inexpensive-ish?

Ok so BOTH my sister and I need laptops for college next year! She hasn't needed one until now because she's been at community college. Anyways we are both moving and both have to pay for college and BOTH NEED LAPTOPS! (Yeah I know I'm beating a dead horse but I'm trying to get you to picture this)
ANYWAYS we don't have a lot of money but we need good quality laptops. My question is are there any laptops on the market that are inexpensive AND affordable?
P.S. I am into photography so if there is a laptop that is good for that AND SCHOOL (school is my priority) then that would be fun too.
