Lenovo Thinkpad Windows 7 Won't Start Properly?

The other day I shut down my laptop and the next day when I turned it on it wouldn't work! It was running fine until the login screen, which was black. However, once I pressed enter I was logged into my account. But not exactly. Now all my applications and cursor is missing, it's a completely blank screen with just my background. I've tried everything I could, but so far nothing has worked. Please help.
