What type of laptop should I buy?

I've had a Lenovo G570 for six years and it is finally starting to give it out. I might I try and buy a replacement battery but I'm also looking into buying a new one. Should I get an Apple Laptop or Windows Laptop? As secretery, I take notes in meetings that last over an hour.
