Issues with switching to a new hard drive?

So I recently switched my laptops hard drive. If it matters, my computer is a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580. Here's what I did first:

1: Copied some things over from my old hard drive to my external hard drive (namely the entirety of my steam folder, about 200 gigs) so I didn't have to download (I'm on satellite wifi and I'm past the cap)
2: Loaded windows 8 onto the new hard drive. Currently on it right now with skype, OBS (that's a livestreaming/recording program), Firefox, and Steam. I have DirectX installed, Java, and Adobe.

On my other hard drive, (the sh*t one) I have a drive under My Computer called Lenovo (D:). That drive isn't on my new one. Also, I'm having a lot of issues with it not even recognizing devices I plug in. I got a nice new headset, but it only sees my crappy laptop mic instead of the one on the Turtle Beach headset.

Here's what I refuse to do:

1: Copy my old drive over. I suspect it has a few viruses on it. This was the computer I learned most of the stuff I know about pc's on, and I've made my fair share of mistakes. I'd rather not copy those over to the new drive.
2: Pay money for this. I already bought windows 8 once. Just… No.

Any help would be greatly appreciated:)
